When God loves his people, he wants them with him. Notice the parallel here with Jesus. As soon as God says, 'This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased' at Jesus' baptism, what happens? The Spirit drives him into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil....When God gets excited about his sons, he wants to send them into battle. He sends his sons into the fray. 'This is my son!' he announces proudly, and then he sends him to face Satan.
