George R. Karvel, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus of the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2014, he was inducted into the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame at the University of St. Thomas for his outstanding achievements in real estate-including publication of over four books and thirty articles and over seventy presentations given throughout the United States and Canada.

Karvel's fascination with Civil War history, and Commodore Perry Snell in particular, began as a young child while listening to his family discuss Snell's mysterious and adventurous story around the dinner table. Over six decades later, Karvel's childhood curiosity has come to fruition in Kentucky Raider.

Karvel, who has traveled much of the world and served in the US Army, enjoys chess, photography, golf, skiing, music, theater, art, literature, and scuba diving.
