AUTHOR'S PREFACE For 34 years, I've been working in fiber optic communications. I've made or viewed more than twenty one thousand OTDR races. During these experiences, I, and several of my professional associates, have noted that OTDR testing and interpretation are the two aspects of installation that cause the most difficulty to the largest number of novice installers. This book is designed to reduce such difficulty significantly With diligence, this book helps you eliminate this difficulty completely My strategy is 'divide and conquer'. This book divides the essential knowledge and understanding into five, clearly written, concise, yet comprehensive chapters. Since words alone will not be sufficient, each chapter includes figures, 120 in all, to ensure that all concepts are clear. About the Author:

For the last 34 years Mr. Eric R. Pearson has worked in fiber optic communications. This involvement includes a wide variety of activities, including manufacturing management, business management, field installation, training, and technical consulting. Mr. Pearson has delivered 507 training presentations and trained more than 8400 personnel in proper installation and design methods. This experience includes making and supervising more than 21,000 OTDR traces. Mr. Pearson has performed more than forty thousand OTDR, ORL, insertion loss, and dispersion tests on both multimode and singlemode cables. Mr. Pearson written four comprehensive texts on fiber installation, The Complete Guide to Fiber Optic Cable Installation (Delmar Publishers, 1997), Successful Fiber Optic Installation- The Essentials (2005), Professional Fiber Optic Installation, The Essentials For Success (2011, ISBN 9780976975434) and Mastering The OTDR [2011]. Since 1999, Mr. Pearson has been a Master Instructor for the Building Industry Consultants Services International (BICSI), and the developer of the BICSI fiber optic network design program, FO110. From 1995-1997, Mr. Pearson was a Director and the Director of Certification, of the Fiber Optic Association (FOA).Mr. Pearson has been a technical expert for a patent infringement suits, law suits between operators and end users, law suits regarding technical fraud in fiber optic cables, and performance specifications. The Academy of Professional Consultants & Advisors (APCA) certified him as a Certified Professional Consultant (CPC).
