This is a topic of conversation among many prepper groups. In fact, when I am asked to be a guest speaker at various prepper functions for my local community, one of the biggest concerns folks in the foothills have is what to use as a substitute if/when the gas stations run dry and end up shuttered.

Grain alcohol is one of the first options that comes to mind. If manufactured correctly, moonshine can be used as an alternative fuel source. The majority of gasoline engines on the market right now, will function normally when fed grain alcohol. In some cases, the use of grain alcohol may even produce better fuel mileage, and/or a cleaner running engine.
