This book is a genealogical study and report that explores and documents the ancestors of Emma Jo Painter Raines, who is the daughter of Oliver Forest Painter and Leta Blanche Scott of Paris, Missouri.
The Painter line is presented first, followed by the Scott line within each generation. The Pedigree Charts are be useful in seeing the various relationships and names. One can imagine traveling back five or six generations; there are many family lines explored and discussed, hence the importance of these graphics.
Each successive family group is presented with known information, such as birth, death, marriages, and children, as well as where they lived and any pertinent stories we have discovered. The authors present each family line back in time to arrival on the shores of the United States, with a synopsis of the family origins in Europe, if known.
The authors relied on family bibles, family stories, and handwritten records of ancestors where available as well as court, tax, property, and marriage records from the seven states these families lived in or passed through on their migration from Virginia to Missouri. Also used were church and cemetery records.
The National Archives Census reports and military records were essential in documenting the everyday lives and contributions these families made to this great country. Information on the Revolutionary War Patriots was derived from records of recognition and membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
