This latest in the "Joggin' Your Noggin" series once again offers hours of stimulating fun to people faced with weakened mental ability. Though originally intended for individuals suffering from dementia, the books also receive positive reviews from many others, including those suffering from stroke, traumatic brain injury or exposure to Agent Orange. The level of vocabulary and degree of difficulty is somewhat more challenging than in prior issues. This edition focuses on word associations, synonyms, antonyms, exclusions, compound words and categories. Answers are provided on the page following each "game" for easy accessibility. An added feature is a readily reproducible set of cards similar to the classic "Bingo" game, but based on words rather than numbers. Seniors may complete the book independently or along with a family member/caregiver or in a group. Regardless of the setting, all will enjoy reminiscing, laughing, sensing the pride of success or simply appreciating the moment. This varied and creative set of activities is sure to entertain, stimulate and provide moments of shared pleasure to all.
About the Author:
The author, a retired Speech-Language Pathologist and graduate of the University of Connecticut, has over twenty years' experience providing therapy to improve communication. When her mother developed Alzheimer's disease, Ms. Randolph began to explore ways to entertain her. Responding to a remarkable paucity of books geared toward this population, Ms. Randolph developed the entertaining and stimulating "Joggin' Your Noggin" series. It is her hope that they will provide many hours of enjoyment and enrich the lives of all who use them.
