Run With the Wind, a Story of WWII Galveston, is Book 2 of the Never Cry Again series. Sarah, a young widow with a crippled son faces the twin enemies of poverty and infantile paralysis. Galveston turns worried eyes to Europe and the rapacious onslaught of Adolph Hitler, and his promise to murder millions. The world erupts into war and American oil tankers are sunk as German submarines patrol the Gulf. Sarah, secretary and assistant manager of Galveston Pilots' Guild, finds herself embroiled in the dangers of a world war, while at the same time longing for the day when her son will defeat polio and realize his dream to go to the beach and Run With the Wind. Benjamin, Sarah's son, at 15 months is walking and running, a handful, like any 15-month old. But then, polio strikes. The infant is completely paralyzed. By the time Benji is 4, much of Sarah's trust fund thought sufficient for a lifetime, has been consumed by the unceasing costs for medical services, doctors, and therapists. But Benji has improved. Fitted with full leg braces, which extend to his waist, the 4-year old boy, with crutches, takes his first faltering steps in over 2 years. Cheers erupt from doctors, therapists, and Sarah, as the boy, sweat beading on his brow, his dark hair wet, his brown eyes full of pain, looks at his mother, and says, "Mama, someday I'm gonna go to the beach, and run with the wind " How Sarah and Benjamin realize his dream, set against the backdrop of Galveston's World War II years, is the story of Run With the Wind.
