Many have often thought that they would have liked to work for a railroad. This volume (the third in a series) will take a prospective employee through the transition era (from steam locomotives to diesel) and right up through our modern era. The pros and cons of a job in the railroad industry are discussed and documented through the true accounts of former and current railroad employees in the format of over 80 short stories. This book, written in the style of O. Henry, is particularly relevant to historians, railfans, and anyone else considering making the railroad or transportation industry a career. A very entertaining little volume
About the Author:
Charles H. Geletzke, Jr. grew-up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from high school in 1967. Following graduation he began his 45-year railroad career working his way through college on the Grand Trunk Western Railroad as a laborer and later a road brakeman. He graduated from Central Michigan University in 1971 with a BS of Bus. Adm. degree, having majored in Marketing and Economics. Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps and was later conscripted into the Army Reserve's 226th Railway Shop Battalion. He worked for the GTW, Delray Connecting, Missouri Pacific, Detroit & Toledo Shore Line, and CN railroads in both labor and managerial positions. Chuck and his wife Leslie have been married for 41-years, have three married children, and three grandchildren. Retired for six years, Chuck enjoys model railroading, woodworking, college football (he's a Navy fan!), baseball, jazz, and writing for various railroad and historical publications. Author Geletzke has written three previous books...THE DETROIT & TOLEDO SHORE LINE RAILROAD-EXPRESSWAY FOR INDUSTRY (co-authored with the late Wilbur E. Hague); WHEN DEADHEAD COUNTED AS REST AND OTHER RAILROAD STORIES; and WITH THE SLACK, THAT WILL DO AND OTHER RAILROAD STORIES.
