The Books of Maccabees are found in the Latin Vulgate dating to about 405 AD. Only fragements of the original of 1st Maccabees were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, yet these books totaled 8 in number from the combined works of Josephus and by construction from the Roman Catholic Church. The history in part is not contested, but the style and voice from the middle ages has been questioned by some scholars.
