The Complete Guide to Facility Management explains exactly what is required of a practicing facility manager in today's built environment. Through personal stories and examples, Dan Lowry teaches the four FM knowledge domains of Operations & Maintenance, Project Management, Business Finance, and Leadership to aspiring and practicing facility management professionals of all backgrounds and education levels. This guide will enable you to understand not only what you need to learn, but how to develop as an FM in a way that brings maximum value to your organization. Through learning how to prove this value to senior management, Dan illustrates key things you can do in order to achieve maximum effectiveness in your FM career.
About the Author:
I've taken a somewhat circuitous route to end up here. I suppose that's ok since there is no normalized career path laid out for facility management professionals, but together maybe we can start to change that. This guide takes everything I've learned about facility management, project management, finance and leadership to teach what new facility managers should be, know, and do. Having not set out in college to become a facility manager, I learned along the way through formal education, self-study, experience, and training. This guide is what I wish I had when I first started. I now have a Master of Business Administration in Finance, am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP(R)) through the Project Management Institute (PMI(R)), and maintain credentials as a Facility Management Professional (FMP) through the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). I belong to the City and Country Club Council of IFMA, my local IFMA chapter, and my local PMI chapter. Throughout all of this, my favorite part of facility management is the constant quest for knowledge. There are so many facets and components to this ever-evolving environment that we all manage; there is no way that any one person can ever learn it all. It's a fascinating career and I love sharing what I have learned with you.
