Seventy-Five Years in California spans the 19th century, offering William Heath Davis' view of California's Pastoral Period. Davis himself had an interesting personal history, having been born in Hawaii in 1822, raised in Boston, traveled a great deal by sea, and became one of the most prominent merchants in San Francisco by 1845.
