Social Movements 1768-2018 provides the most comprehensive historical account of the birth and spread of social movements. Charles Tilly was Joseph L. Buttenwieser Professor of Social Science at Columbia University. He is the author of more than fifty books including The Vend e: A Sociological Analysis of the Counter-Revolution of 1793 (Harvard University Press 1964).

Ernesto Casta eda is Assistant Professor at American University in Washington, DC. He is the author of A Place to Call Home: Immigrant Exclusion and Urban Belonging in New York, Paris, and Barcelona (Stanford University Press 2018).
